Mediatoon is an online media channel that focuses on digital content distribution. It is based in Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 2008 when entrepreneur Matt Whiley decided that there was an opportunity in the cartoon space. He realized that only a few channels existed that provided quality toon programming and launched his own venture in order to compete.
Mediatoon now offers a variety of genres for cartoons including both comedy and drama. Most of the shows are written out fully with a script. Some of the shows are improvised by the voice actors, however.
The content can be accessed through the internet via a smartphone, laptop, or tablet. It can also be viewed download mode or streaming mode on a Roku or Apple TV.
Examples of programs include "Sylvester the Slime" and "Marley's Morning."
Sylvester and the Slime, for instance, is the story of a green glob of goo who comes from another galaxy. He wants desperately to have human friends and be liked. When he meets a new classmate, he instantly wants to live with him and learn how humans operate.
Marley's Morning features a cartoon 14-year-old girl who must deal with all of the problems of being in her first year of high school. Through a variety of crazy days, she finds out that she has more power than she thinks and begins to use her powers to fight evil in the world.
The channel is set to close deals with both Disney and Pixar in the near future.
