Starz is an American television and Satellite premium network that operates under the company name Starz inc. Starz mainly releases motion pictures on its premium networks for subscribers to receive their channels as an upgrade to their original programming. Starz was started in 1994 under the name Starz!, but was later on changed in 2005 to Starz. Starz comedy is a channel under the Starz umbrella that shows first run original TV series for subscribing viewers all over the world.
Starz broadcasts to over 29 million households in the United States each year. It is one of the most popular premium TV upgrades available in the market. Although Starz can only be added by paying a monthly service fee, households all over the country have signed up for Starz and have been signed up for years since the network's inception.
Starz was first started by a partnership between Liberty Media and TCI. Liberty Media had 49.9% ownership while TCI had 50.1% which gave it the controlling interest in the network. The network was supposed to broadcast 6 channels, but after HBO and Showtime started their premium services, Starz came out with another channel that would be dedicated to showing recent motion picture films for viewers. The network kept its focus on modern television and films, while constantly updating their collections which is what kept their number of viewers each year increasing.
