Vudu is a content distribution platform that gives viewers access to thousands of movies and TV shows on a pay-as-you-go basis. Originally, the service was conceived as a hard-dependent model that delivered movies and other content through a dedicated set-top box. Eventually, however, Vudu became available as a software service on other hardware platforms, and viewers could access its content from multiple sources.
Vudu offers movies and TV shows either as a one-time digital rental or as a permanent digital purchase. Unlike streamers such as Netflix or Hulu, Vudu does not charge a monthly subscription fee and allows users to pay only for the content they want to watch.
